Instructional models can vary widely. While some may focus on making the lesson plans, others focus on delivering the content itself. The Dick and Carey instructional design model made an essential contribution to the instructional design field in developing a systematic approach. The model has nine steps.
The steps are often only connected as far as what they do to help the instructor figure out what to teach and how to present it to the learners. These steps are:
Identify goals and objectives.
Complete instructional analysis.
Determine entry behaviours and learner characteristics.
Write performance objectives.
Develop criterion-referenced eLearning assessments.
Develop the instructional eLearning strategy.
Choose learning materials and online activities.
Carry out formative evaluation.
Carry out summative evaluation.
