To be a productive instructional designer, you will need various tools to make your design more attractive and appealing to your customer. On this page, I will be sharing a variety of tools that I have learned I started to use to succeed as an instructional designer.
As we continued studying about Instructional Design Models, we reviewed the limitations of copyright law's ability to keep up with emerging technologies, the open movement explosion, Open Educational Resources (OER), and Creative Commons licenses. Here I share my checklist of the evaluation and assessment of the OER. I evaluated the site of : https://www.merlot.org/merlot/index.htm
When we are creating text materials, in any format (digitally or printed), we need to consider the three major principles of the Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
Representation: designers and instructors should provide information in multiple formats for learners — audio, video, interactive text so learners can access content in a manner they like based on their learning style and strengths.
Action and expression: designers and instructors should create multiple pathways for learners to engage with materials and various options (choice) in demonstrating an understanding of new knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Engagement: designers and instructors should infuse multiple ways to motivate learners, such as providing voice and choice Voice in what and how content is studied to build interest and choice in approach and demonstration of understanding.
Beside the UDL it is important to consider the 5 elements of the Visual Design which are: Contrast, Repetition, Alignment, Proximity, and Simplicity. Below is an example of Infographic for a digital citizenship lesson for middle and high school students.

Another critical element in designing online materials is choosing images that match the contents presented in the lesson. The designing ideas should be attracting and engaging the learner into the lesson's content.
On this page, we have two different presentations to an invitation to attend a Digital Citizenship Presentation done by Middle School students.

Many educational technology tools can be used in education; however, one of the usable teaching tools is the screencast. A screencast can provide learners a student-centered and engaging learning experience in both distance and traditional learning settings.
A screencast is a digital video and audio recording of what happens on a presenter's computer screen, and it can be used to create advanced, information-rich multimedia presentations.
E-learning authoring tools enable teachers to integrate various media to create professional, engaging, and interactive training content. An instructional designer can employ digital elements or learning objects from an existing course to use in a new approach with an authoring tool.
