Training KAS' Faculty on How to Use the New LMS System (Schoology)
Identify a topic that would be suitable for developing an instructional unit for the course project and explain the key goal of this instruction. Provide a brief rationale in which you explain how you are knowledgeable about the subject and why you find the subject interesting. Also describe why you think the content is manageable and can be taught in about 20 minutes, and why your topic could be categorized as an intellectual skill.
Topic: Using Schoology Application as a New LMS system at KAS
Goal of Instruction: The goal is to train the teachers at KAS to master the use of the Schoology software as a new LMS.
Rationale: After COVID 19 many educational institute recognized the importance of online course and the use of technology. The school is moving to hybrid model which require an effective LMS system to continue their school’s mission.
Description / Background of Learner (who would need this instruction):
Task analysis
The task analysis should include a list of three to five tasks to complete a job. For each task identify a minimum of 3 steps an expert learner (or an individual who knows how to complete the task) would follow to learn the instructional goal for your project. Create a list of three to five questions you might ask a subject matter expert (SME) related to the task as a follow-up to your analysis.
Goal of Instruction:
List terminal objective based on a Higher Order Thinking Skill (Blooms Taxonomy)
Faculty at KAS will gain a clear understanding and knowledge of how to use the essential elements of Schoology as an LMS system. By finishing this training, teachers will be able to use the LMS as an effective teaching tool in a hybrid model. The training will be designed in a self-paced format and will include four different models.
Performance Based Assessment:
How will you assess your learners based on them applying content from your instruction?
There are four modules that learners have to study through during the week of orientation time. After viewing short video segments, learners will stop and practice what they have learned on the videos, and then they will apply the skills into their demo courses
The learners will be required to finish a short quiz at the end of each module. Learners must gain a passing point on each quiz before they can move to the next module.
Tasks, objectives and measurements
For this study, develop at least three objectives. (Review Blooms’ Taxonomy to help identify key action verbs to write our objectives). For each objective identify how you will formatively evaluate students’ ability to meet each objective then you have identified from the task analysis, below. Reminder: if you have an objective you must identify a way to evaluate students’ progress in meeting that objective (called alignment).
Objectives
1. Explore and navigate through the new LMS system
2. Apply the skills they observed practically and being able to create different materials in their demo course
3. Prepare and create a lesson inside the new system
Measurements/Evaluation (one per objective)
1. Formative assessment through a short quiz
2. Evaluate the demo course and give feedback to the learners.
3. A short quiz at the end of the training allows some teachers to explain how to use the tools they learned practically and share it with others.
Tasks:
1. Creating an assignment :
Subtasks:
Add grading categories before starting the assignment
Learn and apply the grading policy of KAS (categories weight and grading scales)
learn how to align curriculum standards and use the scope and sequences concept.
2. Contact students and parents
Subtasks:
Teachers should know which menu they can use to send messages to parents or individual students
Explore the course option and the send messages menus
Allocate the group menu and understand how and when it could be useful to them
3. Adding resources
Subtasks
Adding varieties of resources such as media file and external resources
Know the file types and sizes of each resource before uploading or adding them
Add personal applications to the Schoology to be easy to use and integrate.
